But It's a Dry Cold

I'm pretty darn happy about yesterday's weather. Ok, happy
is not really the word I'm looking for, but it was a milestone day on the
"extreme weather that Tom has lived in" criteria. Yesterday the
wind chill got down to -112 Fahrenheit. In other words...cold. Yes,
it was so cold that ink freezes (although Sharpie markers will last for
almost 30 seconds before drying up). It also give a strange crackly
feeling to the inside of your nostrils. Walking around McMurdo, you
feel kind of like an astronaut because you are so bundled up and
covered up. No skin exposed around here. Kind of like the youngest
brother in the movie "A Christmas Story". I was kind of hoping it
would get down to -124 though. When I lived in Phoenix, it once got
up to +124. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with -112. When it's
236 degrees difference, what's a few degrees.

Yep...Antarctica is essentially a desert. One of the driest places in the world. We don't really get that much snow. What little we get in the winter just blows around a lot.

Tom, don't you remember the -126 winter 04? We were out blowing bubbles with bubble stuff and they made an audible pop when landing. You don't see that everyday.
Cheers
