The Library

Last night I visited the Library here for only
the second time this year. For someone who loves
libraries...that's not very often. Working a night
shift will do that to you. Although it doesn't
look like much more than a loading dock from the
outside, it's a small center of culture inside.

Once inside, it's not the biggest place in the
world, but it has a great selection. My favorite
of course is the Travel section, but none of the
books can be checked out. I've donated quite a
few of the books in that section so I like to go
visit them occasionally. Because McMurdo is a
former Naval base, it has one of the biggest
selections of military books I've seen anywhere.
The Antarctic section of course is huge and contains
several hundred rare books about the continent.
It's a nice little oasis of culture in a place that
doesn't see much culture.

Nice size library considering its location!
