Sail to Scott Base

Old Timers would tell stories about how McMurdo Sound would open up all
the way to Scott Base. In fact, a pier used for ships to deliver cargo was once
located around the far side to Cape Armitage. A unused road still goes to it.
I took a drive around very late at night (early morning?) and was able to
get this fun shot of Scott Base. The water is actually eating away at the
Ross Ice Shelf, which is permanent ice. The McMurdo Sound ice is actually
seasonal ice. Big difference as the permanent ice is supposed to be there
all of the time and seasonal ice is supposed to form every year. In fact,
the road to Pegasus Field is only 300 yards from being washed away!
Truly amazing times.
