Pie

We've traveled in many places around the world and they are
called by many names. Calzones, Pasties, Empanadas, Pot Pies,
etc. But in New Zealand and Australia, they are just plain "pies".
These are little hand held meals that come in all varieties and
most are yummy...my favorite is steak and cheese. It seems like
you can't get a bad pie in Australia or NZ though and the best ones
are at out of the way places where you would never think you could
get a gourmet meal.

We ran across a little place while driving called Brighton's Best
Bakehouse, just north of Hobart and the Pies there were phenomenal.
The place was busy even in the middle of the afternoon.

Plus, the people were really friendly. It made the pies taste even
better!

Shipshewana

A family favorite place to visit over the years has been the
Amish community of Shipshewana, located just a short drive
from my Mom's house. My Mom, Lynn and I piled into the car
today and made the trip, seeing lots of farmland along the way
and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Of course we stopped at
several of our favorite places including E&S Sales to look at
all of the bulk food and Yoder's Meat & Cheese Company. Both
places have small containers of cheese available for sampling
and we contributed to the local economy by making a few
purchases including several kinds of cheese curds! Yum!
We ended our day in the area by having a late lunch at
Das Dutchman Essenhaus in nearby Middlebury. Another
place my family has been going for years, it's famous for it's
Amish-style food. Especially it's pies, including my favorite,
Old Fasioned Cream! Yum Again! Although our waistlines
may have expanded after today, our wallets didn't shrink too
much as we controlled our shopping urges. A great day
overall!
