Open Water

Open Water + McMurdo. The two don't usually go
together. However, this year is our best chance
in many years that McMurdo Sound may open up and
be ice-free. We haven't seen it yet in our six
seasons here and now it's only about 20 miles
away and visitble from the top of the Hut Point
Trail on the edge of town. With open water comes
penguins and whales. If we get a big storm in the
next couple of months with strong winds from the
south, all of it could blow out. We'll wait and
see.
