Where Once Was Ice

It's hard to believe, but just a short time ago,
the area you see in the photo was completely
covered by Ice. Right behind the small island
(Inaccessable Island) lies Cape Evans, which I
visited for the first time this year. Now the
Ice edge is around seven miles from McMurdo.
If you had even just a little energy you could
walk there (you'd later be fired and sent on the
next plane home, but you could walk there).
Now that Adelies have appeared at Hut Point and
Emperors are moulting on the Willy Field road,
Orca sightings are sure to be near.
