The New Kiwi Galley

I didn't know when I signed us up earlier this week to
go to dinner at Scott Base that we would be the first
Americans to use their new galley. I know that's not
like the first Americans to climb Everest or step on
the Moon, but considering how many Americans will come
through those doors before the next remodel in 30 or so
years, I think it's kind of neat.

The furniture and the decor fit the modern Kiwi design
that Lynn and I have seen all over the country and although
it's very nice, I do miss the coziness of the old galley.
Especially the little reading nook in the corner.

Of course with the new dining area comes a new kitchen and
Helen was busy cooking dinner for the usual 20 Kiwis as well
as us 11 loud Americans. Tonight we had Lamb Curry with
Coconut Rice and some great Naan-type bread. I LOVE Indian
food so I thought it was one of the best meals I've had since
October. We're looking forward to trying out their new bar
when they open it in three weeks. This will include one of
the only, if not the only fireplace in
Antarctica.

What are they going to burn in the fireplace?

Penquin pies.

They're going to burn natural gas. Glenn said the other day that it's up and running...now they just need to finish the bar.
