I think that Christchurch has one of the nicest
Botanic Gardens around. It's definitely an oasis
in the middle of a bustling city. I took a walk
today through the entire expanse and sadly, it
almost felt like I was in a zoo. Let me explain.
Even in New Zealand, I was struck by all of the
varieties of flora that was from other lands.
There's even a large cactus garden that made me
feel a bit at home. What was sad though is that
places like the Botanic Garden may some day be
the only places you can go to see exotic, let
alone natural trees and flowers. I'm not trying
to take a tree-hugger approach, but instead trying
to get people to support their local Botanic
Gardens and Arboretums. I've listed a few links
below of some places I've either been to, or are
near places I've lived. If you live near one
of these, check them out. If you know of others
that you like to visit, please let me know so that

How is the gardens in Grand Jct? Right before I left they were just beginning construction. So I can say I saw it when it was nothing but dirt.
I've never visited the GJ botanical gardens, although I've been to Denver's a few times. I guess Grand Junction must be too close. I'm reading "The World Without Us" which has an interesting viewpoint on species diversity (one which I don't always share).
I like the gardens in GJ. They're small, but they seem to try hard. They were recently taken over by the city since they were running into financial problems. I heard someone say they weren't impressed, but for a city the size of GJ to have gardens, I think they do a great job.
