I Missed The Boat

Lynn informed me that the McMurdo Supply ship, MV American Tern,
was in Lyttelton yesterday and that I should go over to see
it. I'd only seen it at McMurdo so I thought it might be
interesting to see it in non-Polar waters. But after taking
the bus there this morning, it was nowhere to be found. I'm
assuming it left very early this morning. The only large
cargo ship present was a Hanshin vessel taking lumber to Japan.
Regardless it was a pleasant ride and it got me away from town
for a few hours.

The American Tern left port last night bound for McMurdo. She will return briefly to Lyttelton in about three weeks. Perhaps you will be able to see her then.

The ship is on its way to us. Meanwhile the tanker was freed from the Ice by the Oden and is also on its way. The NBP is at the pier now. We'll offload the tanker first. At least that's the plan this morning. Everything could change this afternoon. It's snowing hard and visibility is Condition 2-ish and windy. Can't wait to see you roomie
