My Brain is Full

No slacking off on the first day. Nope, no goofing off.
Not that that was ever going to be an option since this
is probably my busiest time of the year. However I went
straight into a training marathon of sorts. I have filled
my noggin with an incredible amount of information. This
winter, as well as being the Senior Chalet Admin, I will also
be the Senior Mac Ops Coordinator. Mac Ops is the communications
center for McMurdo and all American field camp activities from
here to the South Pole. For the next eight weeks as well as
running all Admin operations from the Chalet which is busy
enough, I'll also be a Comms operator during the Extended
Season which will run until the third week of April.
After April, I'll monitor regular Mac Ops operations as
well as make regular radio VHF radio checks with the South Pole.
Needless to say, it's a VERY steep learning curve. But it's
a great opportunity doing something I've always wanted to do
here. I get to talk to Field Camps in remote areas of the
continent, South Pole on a regular basis and learn a pretty
cool trade. It definitely should make my winter interesting.

Just when I thought that there were no more corners to cut, they find yet another way to have one person doing multiple jobs. I am so glad that I am not down there this winter.
