Mack Mesa Airport
The airport everyone knows about in Mesa County is the Grand Junction
Regional Airport, with regular commercial flights to six different cities
as well as lots of cargo and private plane traffic. However, there are
also 5 other private airports in Mesa County, Even though they are
small, they serve a useful purpose to those that use them. We were
out on a drive today in the far west side of the county, near the Utah
State Line, when we came across the Mack Mesa Airport.
It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, about a mile west of Highline
Lake State Park and about four miles north of the tiny town of Mack.
We kept our distance because we didn't want to trespass, but the
facilities look fairly modern. The runway is also paved, which isn't
always a given with private airports. More details about the airport
can be found on it's Airnav website.
