Enstrom's Almond Toffee

We got to be tourists in our own town today by
visiting Enstrom's Almond Toffee. It's a candy
company here in Grand Junction that has been in
business for over 60 years. They make over half
a million pounds of Almond Toffee per year
and ship to all 50 states. You don't actually
get to take a tour of the factory, but they do
have a nice little gift shop/coffee house that
has a big window, viewing the candy kitchen. We
were able to watch about a half dozen 70 pound
batches made by about 10 candy makers who were
definitely hustling. It was interesting to watch
how big the portions of ingredients were in each
batch. Six pounds of butter, many pounds of
almonds, and several liters of melted milk chocholate
were used in each batch. Of course we had to get a
small box before we left. It was the sugar-free
variety, so we weren't that bad.
