First climbed by Colorado National Monument founder
John Otto on July 3rd 1910, This 550 foot sandstone
monument has become a symbol of both the Monument and
of the Grand Junction area. Every year, The Mesa County
Technical Rescue Team takes people on a climb up Independence
Monument to post a flag on its top. The climb is a fundraiser
for the team. Everyone have a safe and happy July 4th!
