Grizzly Man

Tonight we hung out with our friends Peter and
Mary and watched Werner Herzog's film, "Grizzly Man".
It's the story of Timothy Treadwell, who lived
amongst the Grizzly Bears in Alaska for thirteen
years, until in 2003, he was killed (and mostly
eaten) by them. Although Treadwell seemed kind
of nutty, it was a good movie overall. Herzog
did a good job of showing how people reacted to
both Treadwell's life and death and interspersed
it with Treadwell's own film footage. Mary told
us of a pretty cool encounter she had withe two
Grizzly Cubs a few years ago. She was watching
them play and they kept coming closer and closer.
Before she knew it they were practically on top
of her. She stood still, made herself as "big"
as possible and they passed her right on by. If
she would have run, they would have thought she was
playing and she probably would have been accidently
mauled. Instead she was here to watch a movie with
us.
