Just when you thought everything had been done in Antarctica, along comes FOLF, or Disc Golf, as it is also called. A number of folks here at McMurdo play FOLF every chance they get. Basically the game is similar to golf, only a flying disc (similar to a Frisbee) is used instead of golf equipment. The object is to then throw the disc into the basket. My source, who asked to remain nameless, has "always wanted to play down here with the extreme winds and crazy landscape. Rec bought the baskets and we just got all fired up to go out and play. It really started off this past summer 04-05". The biggest challenge? "Keeping warm, keeping your eye on the disc. (one hole in one so far!!)". On cold, seemingly endless Antarctic nights, a round of FOLF seems to be just what these folks need to brighten their day.
