My Three Pillars

I came south this year with three definite plans. My three "Pillars" to a successful season.

1. Get regular exercise
2. Get enough sleep
3. Drink enough fluids

In the past, I planned to read more, learn a language, socialize more, etc. etc.

1. Blah
2. Blah
3. Blah

However, this year I WILL be more successful. I've committed myself to work out at least five days a week and have been getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night. It's not hard for me to get fluids as I drink lots of water throughout the day. So this year, it's all about being healthy and not doing unrealistic things that I won't be able to commit to.

Victory!

Today, I received this email message in response to a rant I wrote to
someone on station who is of a much higher position than mine.

"The Aerobics Gym – Library move has been put on indefinite hold
pending further notice. The move will not occur in the near future".

It turns out that the "Aerobics Gym people" were just as unhappy about
the move as the "Library people" and a co-worker of mine started a
letter writing campaign which proved successful. Yes, this is probably
a short-lived reprieve as everyone will forget all about it and spring it
upon the populace again...but at least for now, victory is ours!

I'm Not Happy...

This photo pretty much sums up how I feel
right now. "They" (The MAN...those in charge)
announced yesterday at a town meeting that
the library is moving. It is moving to the
building that holds the Gerbil Gym (the aerobic
exercise gym) and the gym is moving to where
the libary currently is located. I am NOT
happy about this one bit. Yes, the gym will
be closer to the weight gym, but the current
library location is cozy, albeit dark, and
more homey...the gym location is way too bright
and is a refurbished trailer. Plus, 60 square
feet smaller than the current location. Not
a lot, you may say, but when storing books is
concerned...it's a lot. I have the feeling
that decisions are being made by people who
don't even use the library. What troubles me
the most is that the "new" library building is
slated for demolition in the "master plan".
At that point, "they" (The Man) will decide to just
shut down the library...won't that be convenient.
At that time, why do I have the feeling that
Fahrenheit 451 will be the most popular book on
station?

Blue Moon Run

I don't have a runner's body but I was able to help
today as a volunteer for the Blue Moon Run. It's
a 1.5 mile run from the Gerbil Gym (the gym that
holds the aerorbic exercise equipment) to Scott's Hut
and back. Plus, by helping out, I got a free race
t-shirt.

Instead of running, I was a driver of one of the mobile
warming huts...in other words, a van. My station was out
near Hut Point near the Ice Pier Tower of Power. No
sooner than I got parked, the first runners were running
past me toward the Hut. I got to play cheerleader to
everyone that ran by as I was the only race volunteer
that far from the starting line. Walkers were also welcome
to participate and they gradually made it by, going both
ways. As the last walked by, that was my cue to return
to the starting line and I almost got stuck in the snow
but shifted into a lower gear and made it. That would
have been embarrasing!

Some of the runners were really fast! Our friend Nathan
won the race with a time of just over 8 minutes, followed
by Alex and Martin. Almost as quickly as it started, it
was over. The weather was absolutely fantastic. Last
year, people got frotbite while running this race, but
this year, with the full moon, no wind and not-so-cold
temps, people hung out outside after the race.
